At Clayrock, Nigel and the keepers took the news as a bitter pill
am G C dm
For they saw the willy-wisp a-closin in,
F E
and they knew the battle would be
am
would be to the stronger of will.
Chorus:
(walking bass: A A# D D#-E )
You've got to climb that thousand steps
( A G Gb F-E )
before the pain goes to your head;
( A A# D D#-E )
You've got to hold onto the name
(E Eb D G-A )
keeps you movin towards the flame.
Who could strike at the dancing phantoms,
who could tell from friend or foe?
But no illusion was the locomotive;
flew in as the wind did blow.
The engineer, she held fire like a piece of the azure day,
And it leapt from her hand to the lighthouse beacon
to drive those cruel illusions,
to drive those phantoms away!
CHORUS
The pirates hooted and the keepers hesitated,
no ground to defend;
They hadn't counted on a stowaway to bring
the flight to a sudden end.
The engineer, she lay crumpled on the coal-stained cabin floor,
And the stage was set for a hostage-takin
as Daisy preceded the Sheriff,
preceded him out the door.
CHORUS
Not a word was spoken as the rebel keepers
threw their weapons to the ground;
But no-one heard the creakin of the lens' gears
as the beacon swung around.
Light fell on the Sheriff's face like an angry spark,
And he crumbled into dust as a fearful nightmare
spread its horrible wings
spread its wings and fled skriekin into the dark!
CHORUS
