Call Me Ish
lyrics (c)2008

tune: “You Can Call Me Al” by Paul Simon
A man walks down the dock,
He says, “Why am I drawn to the ocean now?
Why am I drawn to the ocean?
Whenever my life is so hard!”
I need a photographic memory,
I need a shot of espresso!
Don't want to pull an all-nighter,
In an all-night juice bar .....
Queequeg, Queequeg,
Stubb, Flask and Starbuck
Heading straight for the ocean floor.
Mr. Lit major, Lit major,
Get these Cliff Notes away from me!
You know, I don't find this stuff confusing anymore ....
If you'll be my metaphor,
I can find your great white fish!
I can call you Ahab,
And Ahab, when you call me,
You can call me Ish!
A man walks down the dock,
I say, Why am I short of attention?
Got a short little span of attention,
And whoa, this book is so long!
Where's my central theme at?
What should I write now?
Who’ll be my inspiration?
Now that my inspiration is ....
Gone ...... gone,
It ducked back down the alley,
With that looney-tooney old Elijah dude.
All along .... along ....
There were miracles and parables,
There were similies and allegories.....
If you'll be my metaphor,
I can find your great white fish!
I can call you Ahab,
And Ahab, when you call me,
You can call me Ish!
Call me Ish ......
A man sails on the sea,
It's a sea in a strange world.
Maybe it's the underworld,
Maybe he’s Zarathustra.
He speaks archaic language,
He nails up currency.
He is the übermensch,
He is confounded by the whale, whale ....
Reference to Leviathan.
Anatomy and oratory.
He’s doomed to rail, rail .....
Against angels and the elements,
Spinning out 1,000 words,
I say, Amen! and Hallelujah!
If you'll be my metaphor,
I can find your great white fish!
I can call you Ahab,
And Ahab, when you call me,
You can call me Ish!
You can call me Ish ......
